And Now We Are Four

We were scheduled for a c-section on Wednesday March 12th, but we were in for an early surprise.  Saturday night we went to Mass and I could feel that my pain wasn't just the Braxton Hicks we were so used to.  Well, by 10 PM we were calling the doctor and by 3 AM we were on our way to the hospital.  Since the contractions were not having a calming effect on our baby and her heart rate, the decision was made to have a birthday.

Katherine Cole demanded to join the family on March 9, 2014 at 9:42 AM.  She arrived weighing 3 lbs 14 oz and was 18.1 inches long.  Our beautiful girl is quite the little peanut!

Baby Katie spent a little time in the NICU (about 15 days), but she was very well taken care of by the most expensive babysitters she will ever have.  During her stay, she worked hard on her tan under some bright lights while we worked harder to fatten her up so she could come home and meet her big brother.

Kate made wonderful progress and moved to not needing the bilirubin lights or the IV or the heated incubator or the feeding tube.  Kate is one tough cookie.  She was even allowed a doll in her bed.  This doll is tiny, but it is almost the same size as Katie!

Although we were very limited by hospital rules as to who could visit and how many could be with Kate at one time and age limits, we definitely felt very loved.  And of course Kate met some of the most important people in her life....Babcia, Dziadzio, Grammy, and Gdaddy. 

Of course Dada came by to visit daily and pictures are scarce, but Mama was there everyday too!  

Finally Katherine Cole was moved to a big girl open air bed close to the door which meant that we were almost ready to leave.

And on March 23rd Kate reached 4 lbs 5 oz and we got to go home!

All along, Jacob had been spending his days with his beloved Babcia and did not understand that he had a baby sister.  Well Sunday, Babcia and Dziadzia dropped Jacob off and he was not at all interested in the tiny new person at home.  Eventually, Jacob came over to touch Kate.  He would touch her and she would squeak and Jacob would laugh and imitate the noise.

We are very happy to have our Katie home.
