Thanksgiving 2011

We are so thankful for our wonderful families.

Grammy and G-daddy kicked off the holiday weekend on Wednesday by driving into town with the girls.  Here we have the cousins modeling winter hats.  I would say that Jacob's hat is the most understated of the group.  G-daddy forgot his at home.
It is wonderful to get the families together and Thanksgiving is a special treat.  What a group we had this year!  Of course we had the in town crowd (Babcia, Dziadzio, Paul, Annemarie, Jacek, Jola, Karol, and Alex), but this year Grammy, G-daddy, Ashley, Jaden, Lane, and Aunt Denise made the trip to town.

Babcia cooked for days so she would have enough in case a small country came over.

Now that he has a tooth and a half, Jacob made sure to taste a couple things.  Babcia went all out on his first Thanksgiving.  What a feast!  Yummy!

After we all got our fill, Jacob made the rounds to snuggle and secure deposits for his college tuition.

What a great evening and what a precious baby.

Jacob must have spotted a few left over crumbs on my face.....
After an outfit change, Jacob showed Mr Bear who is boss.  Too bad he didn't have his bear hat handy because then it would have been a real throw down.
Mr Bear and Jacob are skeptical....

We can't wait to do it all again next year!!!

Bear Cole

Bear got 'em.
Little unsuspecting plastic man didn't stand a chance.
Jacob was channeling the bear and had to clarify whose baby am I by reading the book...."Whose Baby Am I?"
Oh wait, this guy looks familiar.
Animal kingdom continued at the Cole household with a monkey on Jacob's back.
 And we are done.

6 Month Stats

Dr. Perkins gave us a great report on Monday.  Jacob weighs in at 21 lbs 14.5 oz.  This puts our "healthy" boy in the 97th percentile for weight.  He is also 27 inches long.  Jacob had a major spit up right before we left the house and again when we arrived at the doctor's office.   Brandon joked that Jacob knew he would get weighed and therefore was cutting weight.  Look at that belly!

Jacob's head size is also in the 95th percentile.  Hopefully that is indicative of the size of his brain or the fact that we will be shopping for larger hats!  Since he is a little top heavy, Jacob topples over pretty easily.  For example.......

And lastly, Jacob received a yellow outfit from Grammy that Brandon wore when he was a baby.  Of course we had to take a few pictures so the images live on forever.  Hopefully, grammy can come up with some pictures of Brandon wearing this outfit for comparison shots.

Carrots

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Jacob tasted carrots for the first time tonight.  Carrots could be seen on Jacob's nose and Brandon's shirt.

It looks like he got a little drunk on the carrots.
And an extensive clean up process followed.

6 Months

Half a year?!  Really?  That cannot be right!
Every day in these 6 months has been better than the last.  Jacob has such a personality.  He is a morning person (like his mama).  He wakes up smiling and starts out "talking"  very softly in a sing song voice before he moves on to yells and even shrieks of joy.  And boy oh boy can he move those arms and legs.  His happy face makes it hard to leave for the day!
Jacob absolutely lights up when he sees Brandon and smiles with his mouth wide open. Gosh darn it, even the sneezes are cute. But, Jacob is also sensitive and crumbles into tears when Brandon teases him about his socks or waistline.
Obviously he loves spending his days with babcia since she anticipates his every need and takes him outside.  Jacob LOVES to be outside.  I don't know what we will do in the winter.  I guess pressing our noses against a cool window pane is an option.
He does NOT love to be in his car seat, but he tolerates it so we can get places.  Brandon installed the big boy car seat and Jacob is testing it out this week in the afternoons.  Once again he looks small in a car seat......he was starting to look like a toddler in his baby seat.

Jacob had his first cold recently so we were snookered into letting him sleep in our bed. Clogged nostrils make for a somewhat miserable baby, but the morning smiles were all still there.
I don’t want to be that "mom" who tells everyone what a genius her baby is (but Jacob is), so I’ll just say that Jacob is right on target and I am immensely impressed by everything he does.
  • Rolling over - check
  • Reaching for everything (mr. grabby grabby) - check
  • Interested in food - check check check
  • Falling asleep all alone in the crib - check (thank goodness since Brandon was having a hard time stretching out in there)
  • Waking up at night to eat - ummmm, yeah, check (but working on it)
  • Reaching for mommy!!!!!!!!!! - check
To celebrate the big 6 months, Jacob ate rice cereal!!!!!
Grammy gave Jacob a couple silver rattles that were Brandon's when he was a baby.  The dumbbell rattle is a perfect fit and works our boy's biceps.
On November 14th we had our 6 month check up and Jacob weighed in at 21 lbs 14.5 oz!!  This puts him in the 98th percentile for weight!  He had a couple spit up incidents right before we went to the doctor so Brandon says Jacob was cutting weight like the pro that he is.  Jacob continues to be very healthy.
What a sweet baby boy we have been blessed with.
Happy half year birthday, jelly bean!!
